China denies cutting 20% tours to Korea

China has denied recent report that it ordered travel agencies to cut tour packages to South Korea.

The country's foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said on October 26 that China encourages an increase in people-to-people exchanges with other countries.

Following a surge in low-cost overseas tours from China, the authorities had pushed for stricter regulations on cheap package trips to destinations.

Bloomberg reported in July that China's potential backlash against U.S. missile defense system THAAD to the Korean peninsula was raising worries among South Korea’s tourism and leisure industries.
