Travelers admit to threatening a bad review to get discounts or upgrades

Some 13% of travelers said they bribed a brand, but almost a quarter (23%) said they had lied or exaggerated a bad experience in order to get what they want.

Not matter how hard the likes of TripAdvisor try to weed out the dodgy reviews, a darker side of human nature can sometimes play a part.

A survey of over 2,500 travelers has seen one in eight saying they have bribed a travel brand with a bad review in order to get what they want.

UK-based online travel agency Sunshine.co.uk asked travelers what they may have done in order to get what they want or benefit in some way during a trip – and got some pretty downbeat responses.

Some 13% said they bribed a brand, but almost a quarter (23%) said they had lied or exaggerated a bad experience.

In addition, one in ten said they had refused to pay a bill and 8% had lied about a special occasion such as a birthday, honeymoon or anniversary.
