SITA has unveiled a number of demos it is working on with the aim of improving the passenger experience and airline efficiency.

The air travel technology specialist is focusing on: new baggage tracking capabilities in line with IATA Resolution 753, the facilitation of IATA NDC, an industry-wide disruption warning system and improving cyber security.

The fifth area looks at improving identity management to enable a more secure and faster flow of passengers through airports (see separate story).

The five areas, which SITA says represent a multi-million pound investment, have been earmarked for development because they are seen to be among the industry’s biggest challenges.

The demos themselves were unveiled at the Air Transport Industry Summit in Barcelona and include an app, called WorldTracer Ground Delivery Baggage Tracking, enabling airlines to track delayed bags as well as the travel identify project.

Other initiatives unveiled during the Summit include kiosks, being trialled at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5, enabling travellers to download the latest films and reading material to their iPhones and iPads. SITA developed the two EntertainMe kiosks with Orange Business Services and Adaptive Channel.

SITA’s latest Passenger IT Trends survey reveals that almost half of those carrying a mobile phone or tablet use them to access entertainment.
