Regiondo has managed to secure a mid-range seven-digit Euro financing round from Jochen Schweizer, one of Germany’s high profile entrepreneurs and TV personalities.

Regiondo has managed to secure a mid-range seven-digit Euro financing round from Jochen Schweizer, one of Germany’s high profile entrepreneurs and TV personalities.

Schweizer has appeared for the last two years on Die Höhle der Löwen, the country’s version of the popular business showcase show, Dragon’s Den.

Existing unnamed investors are also participating in the new round of capital.

Schweizer, now founder of the Jochen Schweizer Group, is also well-known as a stuntman and founder of an ad agency in the 1980s, as well as a supporter of extreme sports such as bungee jumping and skydiving.

Regiondo says the funding will be used to support its plans for international expansion and investment in its B2B booking services.

The company started in 2011 as a consumer-facing marketplace for tours and activities but eventually switched to becoming a technology provider to operators.

The B2C service is still running, with 7,000 operators accounting for 12,000 offers listed on its website.

The founders say the decision in 2014 to switch to also become a software provider has seen it secure deals to power platforms for Volkswagen and Swarovski.

The SaaS-based platform includes product management tools, mobile ticketing, CRM and distribution connections into global brands such as Viator.

Managing director Oliver Nützel says:

“The right time for disruption in the leisure industry is now. With the funds provided and the strategic know-how we will be able to further accelerate our expansion strategy with the trust and support of a big player in the industry by our side.”
